CPSO participates in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

CADDO PARISH, LA (KSLA) -

The Drug Enforcement Administration is offering a safe way for the public to dispose of unwanted prescription drugs as part of National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

The drug take back event will be held on Saturday to give the public an opportunity to bring back unused, unwanted and expired medications. This is the fourth time that the DEA has held this event.

Anyone can send their unwanted medicines to the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office or the Louisiana State Police Office. Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator says they will accept prescription and over-the-counter medications including tablets, capsules and sealed liquids. All identifying information such as name, address and prescription number should be removed. Intra-venous solutions, injectables and needles will not be accepted.

Prator says the one-day effort is being held to bring national attention to the increase of pharmaceutical controlled substance abuse and theft. These drugs are a potential source of supply for illegal use and an unacceptable risk to public health and safety.
