A memorial now honors two Shelton State Community College students who died in the April 27th tornado.

The college now has a memorial in place called "Shelton State Remembers: Inside the Tornado."  Students, faculty and staff came together to remember the lives lost and how an entire community came together for the rescue and recovery efforts.

"I think there's a heightened sense of awareness of what this kind of destruction can do and the role a community college or a college can play in the recovery process," said Dr. Mark Heinrich with the college.

Alabama Power used the Shelton State campus as a staging area for its repair trucks following the tornado. Also many students and staff participated in volunteer relief efforts.
