Equal pay for women bill dies in Senate committee

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Equal pay for women has been a hot button item in this session, but the issue failed to make it out of committee in its second go-round at the Capitol.

Senate bill 568 went before a Senate committee Wednesday morning, but was killed by a 5 to 3 vote.

It would have created the "Equal Pay for Women Act" and called for the state to eliminate discriminatory wage practices based on sex.

The bill suggested such discrimination leads to low morale and threatens the well-being of the people of Louisiana.

Last week, after lots of confusion over the purpose of another "equal pay for women" bill and hours of back and forth, a House committee voted 6 to 3 to involuntarily defer HB 573, essentially killing it for this session.
