TIGARD, OR (KPTV) -

A lost dog has found its way home after he took a joyride down Pacific Highway.

Bailey, a Jack Russell, escaped her backyard and boarded the Line 12 bus at Southwest Pacific Highway and McDonald Street at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday in Tigard, as other passengers were boarding.

A rider on the bus held onto the dog until a TriMet supervisor could pick her up in Portland. She was reunited with her owner at Multnomah County Animal Services Shelter on Wednesday.

"That's Bailey. Didn't see that one coming, but it's not a total surprise," said owner Adam Baker. "We're grateful to have her back. We love our dog very much."

Because Bailey didn't have a microchip or collar on at the time, she was taken to Multnomah County Animal Services. Her picture was posted online and on TV, where neighbors and friends of the Bakers recognized the dog.

""I think Bailey has been on the news; I think your dog took a ride on TriMet,'" said Baker, describing the multiple messages he received, including one from Lisa Robinson who lives next door.

"The idea of her getting on the bus is pretty silly, but I could totally see her doing that," said Robinson. "I'm just glad the dog is back with its owners now, and hopefully she doesn't get out again."

The Baker family, relieved to have her back, would like to thank everyone who made the reunion possible."

"Without all the media coverage, I don't know if we would have found her," said Baker.

Baker says Bailey usually wears a collar, but it had accidentally been left off after she was bathed.

The Multnomah County Animal Services would like to remind pet owners that the easiest way for a lost pet to be reunited with its owner is through wearing a collar with a license tag.
