Tyler police search for suspect in overnight shooting

Posted: Updated:
TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

Tyler police are looking this morning for the person who shot a man in Tyler.

Tyler police have reason to believe 18-year-old Kertral Damon Murphy of Tyler was shot in the area around Genwood and Erwin Avenues in Tyler sometime around 2 am Monday.

But as they told our Lauren Callahan at the hospital this morning, they haven't been able to find a crime scene or anyone who saw the shooting happen.

Tyler police say that Murphy said he was shot somewhere on Gentry Pkwy in Tyler, but family members at the scene told police he was at a party near Glenwood and Erwin.

Tyler police have been searching both areas this morning looking for a crime scene or for witnesses who saw the shooting happen.

Officers also learned from the hospital that Murphy was brought to the hospital by an unknown black male driving possibly a tan or gold colored vehicle with tinted windows and that this subject left the hospital after Murphy exited the vehicle.  Murphy was shot one time in the lower back and is currently in surgery for what is believed to be a non-life threatening injury.

If you have more information, call Tyler police at 903-531-1000 or Crimestoppers at 903-597-2833.
