What's it mean to be a good corporate citizen. In the case of Kansas City Southern, it means stepping up and hiring a veteran or the spouse of someone in the military.
A couple of days ago the railroad in Shreveport was honored by First Lady, Michelle Obama for hiring 20 veterans so far this year. It's part of the administration's Joining Forces initiative.
The goal is to hire or train 100,000 veterans or military spouses by the end of 2013.
The military plays an important role in the Ark-La-Tex with thousands stationed here. Many chose to stay after their service, but have to find work.
That's where the Kansas City Southern Railway Company has really stepped up and set the example for other local business to follow. Good for them.
I'm James Smith.
