LANSING, MI (WNEM) -
A Michigan man was like millions of others across the country who wanted to win the recent historic Mega Millions jackpot of $656 million.
Jacob Lemus was so eager to win that he used the last three dollars in his pocket to place the wager. His ticket had five of the six winning numbers, netting Lemus $250,000 before taxes.
Lemus told the Michigan Lottery that once he knew he had a winner, he hid the ticket, but checked on it every day "just to be sure." He plans to buy a home and save the rest of the money for retirement.
Lemus purchased his winning ticket at a 7-Eleven store located at 1365 Dix Hwy. in Lincoln Park.
The Mega Millions jackpot skyrocketed to a massive $656 million once all sales closed on Friday, March 30 at 10:45 p.m. Once the dust settled, Lemus was one of six Michigan players to match five white balls to win $250,000 in the drawing. In fact, 636,136 Michigan players won a combined total of $4,573,224.
