Family of Greenwood crash victim speaks out

Posted: Updated:

Fifteen-year-old Hayden Hough died in a car accident in Greenwood, Louisiana around 7 p.m. on Saturday night at the intersection of Greenwood Road and West 70th Street. Hough, was a passenger in a car that started to make a left hand turn onto 70th Street at the same time an SUV began turning onto Greenwood Road. The two vehicles crashed, and EMS took Hough to LSU Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.

Christopher Hough, Hayden's father,  says Hayden was one of six brothers and sisters, and played a very active role in the youth group at the church he pastors.

"He loved to hunt. He loved to fish. He loved to be around people. He loved his youth group. And, he was a jokester. He was a normal type 15-year old boy," said Hayden's father.

Friends and family have all gathered at the Hough home in Greenwood to support each other as they mourn Hayden's death. Hayden's father says, ultimately, it is his family's strong faith in God that will go the distance.

"It's the hardest thing that we've ever walked through. It's dark. It's cold. But, underneath all of that there is a hope in God, who is sovereign, and wise, and good and caring. He is unchangeable. He is our rock," said Hough. "If I look to myself I will fall. I can't handle something like this, but Christ can."

The Hough family says this will undoubtedly be an Easter that they will remember forever, but they are confident as each day passes, the hurt and the struggle that comes with such a loss will get easier.
