Top-ranked Florida stormed back to take the second game of the series with LSU in SEC Baseball Friday night, handing Tigers ace Kevin Gausman his first loss of the season 7-0.
After blowing a chance to score the tying run in the bottom of the ninth inning by tagging up from third base on a fly ball in Thursday night's loss, Florida senior Daniel Piggot rebounded to spark two big innings for the Gators Friday, going 2-for-5 and scoring twice. Piggot's third inning single started a 2-run uprising capped by Mike Zunino's two RBI double.
Florida knocked Gausman out of the game with a 4-run seventh inning, beginning with a Piggot single again. The big blow in the seventh was Nolan Fontana's 2-run single. The Gators added a single run off reliever Joey Bourgeois in the eighth.
Jonathan Crawford and two relievers combined on a 3-hit shutout for Florida (25-6, 7-4), while LSU (24-7, 7-4) saw its seven game winning streak come to an end.
Game three of the series is scheduled for Saturday afternoon at 3:00pm central time. There is no television broadcast for Saturday's series finale.
