STONEWALL, LA (KSLA) -

A memorial garden has been dedicated in honor of Justin Bloxom at North DeSoto Middle School, two years to the day the 12-year-old was killed, allegedly at the hands of a convicted sex offender.

Family, friends and members of the community gathered at 10 a.m. to remember the Stonewall teen. KSLA News 12's Summer Knowles was at the dedication ceremony and explains what it means to those who knew Bloxom best.

Bloxom's mother Amy Fletcher says she remembers her son two days to the day he was killed. Fletcher was joined by students, teachers, family and friends at the opening of a memorial garden in Justin's name at North Desoto Middle School. "He is here, he's definitely here I can feel him," says Fletcher.

Hundreds felt Bloxom's presence and cherished his memory in their hearts - even their hair.

Bradley Kennedy was one of Justin's classmates. Kennedy was one of dozens of highschoolers allowed to come back to the middle school for the ribbon cutting. "The garden by itself is beautiful, its gorgeous. I love it and it represents him and I mean he loved to be outside," says Kennedy.

The memorial garden has a total of 13 trees. The garden has 12 white crepe myrtle trees representing Justin's age when he died. The 13th tree is a large Japanese red maple that represents the loss of Justin.

Fletcher says she takes comfort in knowing her son's death wasn't in vain.

"Since this happened I've been more aware of who I text and what I do on the Internet, who I'm talking to on the phone. It makes us more aware," says Kennedy. I know that he's smiling right now looking down being thankful."

Brian Horn, the taxi driver accused of murdering Bloxom, was charged with 1st degree murder in the death of Justin Bloxom in March of 2010.  Prosecutors say Horn, a registered sex offender, posed as a girl and texted the teen to lure him into his taxi.  Bloxom's body was found hours after he was reported missing in a wooded field off of Highway 171 in DeSoto Parish. Prosecutors say he had been smothered to death.
