Feb. 26: Undercover Operation Editorial

Posted: Updated:

This month KSLA News 12 followed sheriff deputies on an undercover operation. The goal, to see if stores will sell alcohol to minors.

Here's how it worked. Deputies sent an underage boy or girl into the store. The minor then tried to buy alcohol.

So what happens next? You would expect the store clerk to ask for an ID, check the age of the person, and if they aren't old enough, refuse to sell. That's how it's supposed to work.

Stores selling alcohol to minors isn't a new problem by any means. It's been going on for years. But today, there are much stricter laws in place than there were 10 or 20 years ago. There is also much more awareness of the issue.

But even with all that it still happens all the time.

This Wednesday on KSLA News 12, we'll show you the results of the undercover operation and we'll tell you who sold to minors and who didn't.

And we'll tell you how a change in the law could make enforcement even stronger. It's something parents, their kids and store owners should see. I'm James Smith.
