SHREVEPORT-BOSSIER CITY, LA (KSLA) -

The official groundbreaking ceremony got under way Wednesday morning at the site of Bossier City's newest riverboat casino complex.

Jimmy Buffett, who owns the property along with two other Margaritaville-themed casinos, was on site for the ceremonies. One location is open in Las Vegas, Nevada and another is expected to open within the next few months in Biloxi, Mississippi. The Bossier City casino will be the largest of the three.

Construction on the $197 million casino and hotel resort is already underway in Bossier City, with a targeted opening date of June 2013. According to developers, Margaritaville Resort Casino is projected to provide more than 1200 new jobs and more than $12 million in new local tax revenues to support jobs for our first-responders and educators.

Crews should finish the dirt work on the Margaritaville project in three months. After that, construction of the hotel and casino barge themselves will begin.

The Margaritaville Resort Casino will be the sixth casino in the Shreveport-Bossier area and the first new facility in more than a decade. It's expected to open in June of 2013.
