SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -
People all across the world stopped what they were doing to watch Whitney Houston's funeral. Latasha Hines-Harris invited us into her home to watch.
"She's been through some things in her life," Hines-Harris says. "Watching the celebration, only God could have brought her through the things which she has gone through. So today, we are definitely celebrating Whitney, and uplifting her and now she's in a better place."
The funeral was a celebration of a life that touched millions and millions of people, including Latasha.
"My favorite Whitney Houston song was her most recent song 'I Look to You.' That song was really emotional for me. Here was a young lady who's done all she could do, and her only strength was God."
She never met Houston, just like most dealing with her death, but it didn't matter.
"I can identify with Bobbi Kristina. She lost her mother. I just recently lost my father. It's very emotional right now. The family just needs prayer."
Tabloids are buzzing with speculation about how she died, and many are taking to social media to criticize Houston's well-documented struggles. However, Latasha and those close to Houston share the same belief that the focus should be on the legacy the icon left behind.
"We all fall short, and we get back up. Whitney fell short, and she rose. She got back up with the help of God," she says.
"This is more important than anything else she's ever done in her life. Whitney Houston loved the Lord," said Tyler Perry during the service. "Say whatever you want. God was for her."
