Classes canceled at Ringgold Complex following threat

BIENVILLE PARISH, LA (KSLA) -

Bienville Parish Schools canceled classes for about 725 students at the Ringgold Complex after a telephone threat was received around 11:20 Tuesday morning.

Superintendent William Britt confirmed the decision to send everyone home just before 1:00 p.m. on the advice of the Sheriff's Department, to allow law enforcement free reign to search the campus. The school day normally ends at 3:15 p.m.

Bienville Sheriff John Ballance confirmed they thoroughly searched the Ringgold Complex following this morning's threat, and that includes calling in Barksdale's bomb squad (with their bomb-sniffing dogs).

The school board's automated 'Alert Now' system was used to alert parents and relatives of the developing situation. Britt says no one was hurt and every precautionary measure was taken to assure the safety of faculty and students alike.

The status of Wednesday classes has not yet been decided, but Britt anticipates they will resume.

Ballance says because it's Valentine's Day, there are a lot more packages than are usually found on the campus, so they are being extra careful.

As far as any criminal investigation, Sheriff balance says yes, "We are going to try to find out who was responsible for making the call to the school."
