BOSSIER PARISH, LA (KSLA) -

The Louisiana Department of Fish and Wildlife, the Bossier sheriff's office and the Caddo sheriff's office used new equipment to search for the body of 63-year-old Dan Stanley who was thrown from a fishing boat February 8th.

In addition to boats, K-9 units and a helicopter, search crews have used side-scan sonar to look for Stanley. Officials say they have no plans to discontinue the search.

Rescue crews continued their search Thursday morning for an East Texas fisherman that went missing after a boating accident in Bossier Parish.

Authorities say their mission to find 63-year-old Dan Stanley has turned from a rescue to a recovery. Rescue crews used a helicopter and cadaver dogs to search the River Bend Marina in Elm Grove. Rescue crew members say they searched every area of rock around where the accident happened and came up empty.

Bossier deputies say Stanley and 64-year-old Jerry Smith were out fishing Wednesday when their boat hit a cluster of rocks, throwing them overboard. Smith was found shortly after the accident and airlifted to LSU Health. Smith is in fair condition. "Nothing abnormal about the river conditions. Where they were turning into the entrance, there's a sandbar that juts out into the river a good ways. And they were merely trying to turn in closer to the rocks in order to miss the sand bar to keep from running aground. We feel they were familiar enough with the river, but accidents happen to the best even the most experienced boaters. Things can happen," says Wildlife and Fisheries Sgt. Wesley Walker.

The owner of River Bend Marina says Stanley and Smith had fished at the marina for several years. Police say Stanley and Smith are cousins and are from Bivens, Texas.

Stanley's family was at the marina during the search, but declined comment.

Rescue crews will continue their search on Friday morning.
