CADDO PARISH, LA (KSLA) -

Caddo school board members discussed improving their check-out policies Tuesday.

Board members say they met in a work session to talk about the plan. This meeting comes after a 5-year-old Werner Park Elementary student was checked out of school back in December by two 13-year-old girls. School leaders say procedures were not followed. Board members have proposed a five step district-wide procedure for checking out students.

KSLA News 12's Dominique Benn investigated the issue. As part of the investigation, KSLA News 12 showed a man walking into Southwood High School to check out a that was not his. School Board Vice President Dottie Bell proposed that all schools follow a uniformed policy in addition to the school's individual procedures. "It should be the policy of the school to have a written procedure dealing with student check-out and the staff checking students have training on procedures," says Bell.

Board member Larry Ramsey says if they react to a local television station creating some news, then this will not be a good policy. Ramsey says the current procedure has been effective.

Board members will have to meet in a regular board meeting to vote on the plan.
