CADDO PARISH, LA (KSLA) -
Around 9:30 a.m. Saturday, a tanker truck was reportedly traveling westbound on South Lakeshore Drive, when it didn't yield at a stop sign, and collided with a minivan, which was headed southbound on Highway 169. The van went underneath the truck.
The 18-wheeler dragged the minivan with it into some nearby woods before coming to a stop.
The driver of the 18-wheeler, 36-year-old Travoski Kevonne Powell of Garland, TX, and two children, 6-year-old and a 7-year-old girls from the minivan, were taken by ambulance to LSU Hospital. The driver of the minivan, 38-year-old Kellie Anthony of the Mooringsport area was airlifted to LSU Hospital.
The 6-year-old was treated and released, Powell is being treated, and both Anthony and the 7-year-old are in ICU at LSU Hospital.
The tanker truck was carrying salt water, which was leaking and had to be off-loaded. Since the truck and trailer slid off the roadway and is near Cross Lake, a Haz-Mat crew is on the scene now to ensure that if there is any leakage of salt water, that it doesn't flow into the lake. Cross Lake is a man-made freshwater lake and Shreveport's main source of consumable water.
According to Caddo Sheriff's spokeswoman Cindy Chadwick, a small amount of diesel fuel was also leaking from the truck. Along with members of the Sheriff's Haz-Mat unit, officials with the state Department of Environmental Quality, and Department of Transportation and Development also responded to the scene.
KSLA News 12's Tracy Clemons will have a report coming up tonight on KSLA News 12 at 10.
