SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

A Shreveport man accused of hitting a woman while running from police was arrested Friday morning.

Shreveport Police Department Sgt. Bill Goodin says 40-year-old Derrick Nicholson in the 400 block of Texas Street without incident. Goodin says Shreveport Sex Crimes Unit investigators received several reports in January of Nicholson attempting to scam women by passing himself off as a photographer for a film studio. Nicholson is a registered sex offender. Witnesses say he was allegedly telling the victims that if they paid him a certain amount of money and sent him pictures, he would find them work in major projects. Police say Nicholson followed up on those promises by asking the women to meet him at an office in the Kingwood Business Center.

Detectives say as they were trying to find Nicholson at the office on Kingston Road on Monday when he apparently realized they were looking for him, he tried to escape. As Nicholson was fleeing, he allegedly hit a woman who was in the office with him. Nicholson was taken to the Shreveport City Jail and charged with simple battery.

Detectives say they will continue investigating to determine if Nicholson will face other charges in connection with this case. Anyone with information regarding similar incidents involving Nicholson should call investigators at 318-673-6955 of the Shreveport-Caddo Parish Crime Stoppers at 318-673-7373.
