Right now in Caddo Parish, at least 250 senior citizens are unable to get a daily lunch delivered to their homes. That's because of budget cuts to the Meals on Wheels program.
For many seniors in our area, this is the one contact they have with the outside world. It's a chance for someone to check on them on a daily basis and to make sure they get at least one good meal.
Five months ago, the Meals on Wheels program was able to serve 1,050 homebound seniors. Today, only 938.
March is the big awareness month for the program with special events scheduled, but our senior citizens can't wait until then. Volunteers are needed any money.
