In last week's State of the Union address, President Barack Obama identified community colleges as essential elements of America's economic prosperity. He is not the first President to extol the virtues of community colleges.
His predecessor, President Bush, called the community college a place where people can gain the skills necessary to realize dreams.
President Clinton lauded the community college's ability to be very flexible and willing to change and move with the markets.
Since the 40's, presidents and policymakers have embraced the concept of community colleges, at least in speeches. At Bossier Parish Community College, we have turned rhetoric into reality.
We have adopted a consumer-driven mindset that ensures students enjoy unparalleled access and opportunities for success. We have engaged employers and partner universities to ensure our graduates exceed their expectations.
As a result, I guess it's no surprise BPCC was named the fastest growing community college in the nation. On behalf of our faculty, staff, we are proud to be a part of this community, and we thank you for your support.
I'm Jim Henderson, Chancellor of Bossier Parish Community College.
