Foam spotted on the Red River

Posted: Updated:
SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

We are following up on reports from viewers concerned about some brown foam spotted recently along the Red River near downtown Shreveport.

StormTracker Steve Parr says it's most likely from natural sources, due to an increased levels and faster flow from recent rains. That tends to stir up debris in the river.  Lots of leaves that fell in December are now rotting, which can release gas that interacts with the water and form a foamy substance, as well.  One of the ways you can tell that foam is naturally-occurring is by it's color: It's more likely going to be natural if it's brown.

Still, the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality tells KSLA News 12 that they'll be heading down to the river on Tuesday to check it out for themselves.

We'll be sure to update you here on what they find.
