FOREMAN, AR (KSLA) -
Arkansas State Police have been called in to investigate the death of a one-year-old boy early Monday morning.
According to investigators, Marcus Sims Jr. was staying with his father in Foreman, Arkansas when something went wrong, and he reportedly stopped breathing. A preliminary autopsy report shows the child's death could be a homicide.
The child's mother and grandmother and state investigators continue their search for answers Wednesday.
"Mama is going to find out what happened and you don't have to worry about that," Velma Riley, Sims' grandmother said through tears as she looked at pictures of the one-year-old.
The infant's father reportedly told State Police that he went to check on his son and he was unresponsive. He rushed the child to Little River County Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
"I'm really disappointed in my boy being gone from me, it is hard to see my baby girl without no brother," said Shay Riley, the infant's mother.
A preliminary autopsy report from the Arkansas Crime Lab shows the child did not die of natural causes - and may have been the victim of a homicide.
Investigators are not discussing the cause of death and what indicates the possibility of a homicide. They will say they do not have a suspect at this time.
Sims' family remains vigilant in getting to the truth. "All I want Lord, all I want, I want justice and I'm not going to stop until I get it," Velma said.
The investigation is still in the early stages and authorities say they do not have a specific suspect at this time.
Meanwhile, the family prepares to make funeral arrangements for the one-year-old.
