SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

Caddo Parish prosecutors confirm they will seek the death penalty in the re-trial of Robert Coleman in the murder of Julian Brandon, Jr.

Robert Coleman and his girlfriend Brandy Holmes were each convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to death for killing the 70-year-old retired minister in his Blanchard home on New Year's Day 2003.

Brandon was shot and stabbed to death after answering a knock on the door. Brandon's wife, Alice, was shot and survived, but never fully recovered. She died five years later.

Coleman's conviction was overturned in 2007 by the Louisiana Supreme Court, which ruled that prosecutors violated Coleman's rights when they dismissed a black juror on racial grounds.

In December 2008, the Louisiana Supreme Court upheld Holmes' conviction and death sentence in a 5-2 ruling.

Jury selection in Coleman's re-trial could start Monday.
