Community surrounds injured Elysian Fields teen

ELYSIAN FIELDS, TX (KSLA) -

Family members say Shiloh Pearson suffered injuries to her brain when an SUV collided with her friends vehicle last Saturday. Since the accident, the East Texas teen's family says they've been amazed by the response from the small community of Elysian Fields.

"They're very private people so for all these people they don't know to come together, it's humbling. I'm just astounded by what these girls have put together," said Sandy Smith, Pearson's cousin.

Part of that response is a fundraiser, planned for Saturday, November 19th, just a week after Shiloh's accident. A group of women from the community are also selling wristbands and T-shirts to raise money.

That group includes Lissa Busbey, who said she was inspired by the power of prayer from the community for other local children's injuries.

"We've seen what they've done for Charley Rae and for Maddie Skinner, and if they can help them then I think the community would be just as willing to help Shiloh," said Busbey.

The fundraiser is Saturday, November 19th at the Elysian Fields High School football stadium. At 10:55 am, they plan to have a community-wide prayer. Donations can also be contributed to a fund in Shiloh Pearson's name at Capital One banks.
