SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - Persistence finally paid off in a big way for conservative Republican Barrow Peacock, in his fourth bid for a spot in the Louisiana State Legislature, and second for the senate.
The Shreveport businessman beat fellow Republican and long-time State Representative Jane Smith of Bossier City in the race for the LA Senate District 37 seat. Peacock earned 55-percent of the vote, compared to Smith's 45-percent.
Peacock credits his door-to-door efforts for the win. "Yes, I think it makes, I mean to me that's what's important. That's the way I learn what's important to the voters and the voters get to ask me a direct question. No barrier, nothing between us. And I don't want a barrier between us."
Term-limited District 37 incumbent Republican Buddy Shaw described Peacock's win as a "David versus Goliath victory," because he won despite Governor Bobby Jindal's strong endorsement and support of Smith.
