    Jesuit alum Deion Jones intercepted Drew Brees with under two minutes to go in the game, killing a possible tying or winning score by the Saints. The Falcons escaped with a 20-17 victory.  Brees went 26-of-35 passing for 271 yards, with two touchdowns and a pick. He found Tommylee Lewis for a 26-yard touchdown in the second quarter, and Michael Thomas caught a 1-yard touchdown in the third. The Saints lost key contributors in the contest due to injury.     The Walk-On’s Independence Bowl was not initially on the University of Southern Mississippi’s radar when it came to possible postseason destinations.
