JEFFERSON, TX (KSLA) -

More evacuations have been ordered for residents in the path of the Bear Creek fire that began along Hwy 155 between Linden and Avinger Saturday and has since spread out of Cass County and into Marion County.  As of midday Tuesday, it consumed more than 14,000.  No new acreage estimate was available early Tuesday evening.

Mandatory evacuations are in place for areas along US 59, down to and including Jefferson and to the west.

No reports of injuries have been reported.  Texas DPS Public Information Officer Sylvia Jennings says the number of structures lost to the blaze remains at six.  The main focus is to protect lives and property.  Any property damage assessments will occur at a later time.

According to Jennings, the National Weather Service has forecast an "inversion layer" to occur around 9 p.m. and into the night in the Jefferson area and down into Carthage area, which may reduce significant visibility and may also affect those with respiratory problems.

Anyone wanting information on when they can return to their homes after evacuations should call the Marion County Sheriff's Office at (903) 665-3271.

People wanting to know if they can come home should call the Cass County Sheriff's Office at (903) 756-7511.

Texas DPS notes that these are not numbers intended for people to call to find out if their home in particular is ok, but specifically for information about whether the evacuated areas have been cleared for their return.
