It has been alarming to watch our 401K's tank as the stock market plunged hundreds of points, but there still may be a silver lining to be found in this economic crisis.
The downgrading of our bond rating should be a wake up call to all of us that we have serious problems in our economic system that need to be fixed.
The finger pointing should not be at the rating service, but rather at our elected officials who can't agree on what to do. Our hope now rests with the committee of 12 that will come up with ideas on how to reduce our debt and repair our economy.
It is time for our elected officials to put aside party differences and work through this economic crisis and find ways to bring confidence back to the American public.
One way for this to happen is for congress to cut short its summer recess and show the American public that we still have leaders in this country who can solve problems instead of creating them.
We need elected officials to look out for what's best for the country, not their particular party.
Let me know what you think. I'm James Smith.
