Our community was stunned and greatly saddened once again with the news of two local men killed in Afghanistan.
Robert James Reeves and Jonas Kelsall were members of the elite Navy Seals. They were among 30 Americans who died when the helicopter they were in went down in the Tangi Valley.
Reeves and Kelsall went to school together at Caddo Magnet High School. They became Navy Seals and were part of the most elite counter-terrorism unit in the U.S. Armed Forces. Seal Team 6, that is the famous unit that killed Osama Bin Laden.
We're told they weren't on the Bin Laden raid, but both men had been on many others. They served our country well and make us all proud.
Perhaps President Obama said it best, "Their deaths are a reminder of the extraordinary sacrifices made by the men and women of our military and their families."
How can you honor these American heroes? We encourage you to express your patriotism. Fly the American Flag. Support our troops anyway you can.
Working to defeat those who kill us is a dangerous business. The death of these two Navy Seals, along with their comrades is a vivid reminder indeed. I'm James Smith.

~"I wish to thank you for your acknowledgement of the service to our country by our military. I was a military grass widow for many years while my husband served this country. He was a died in the wool Navy man and spent six to nine months at sea each year. We had no access to email or phones and
had to number our letters so that when a bunch arrived together they could be put in order so we could read them with some semblance of sense.
He lost his brother in a German prison camp who died eight days before it was liberated. I lost my brother in WWII also. Not to mention the extended family of cousins and uncles. WWII, Korea, Vietnam and the Cold War were part of our history. If there was a parade the ones viewing it stood at attention and were very proud of our flag as it passed. I raised four children pretty much alone a goodly part of the year and they were taught respect for others.
This was true of many service men and their families. I for one wanted you to know that I appreciate your kind words for the military and their service to our country. So many do not realize what it entails until there is a disaster like losing the Seals. May God Bless you for your thoughtful words.
Sincerely, Dorothy Walsh."
