TRINITY COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

A guide at a Kansas hunting club has been sentenced to prison for helping an illegal deer hunting operation.

Thirty-six-year-old Marlin Butler was sentenced Friday to 27 months in prison and ordered to pay $20,000 in fines and restitution.

On Tuesday, his brother, 42-year-old James Butler, was sentenced to 41 months and fined $50,000. Both men have indicated they plan to appeal.

Prosecutors say the Martinsville, Texas, men offered guided hunts to people who paid thousands of dollars to hunt at Camp Lone Star in Coldwater, south of Wichita.

Prosecutors said hunters killed deer in excess of annual limits, hunted without permits and used illegal methods and equipment.

They had earlier pleaded guilty to breaking a federal law barring interstate transport of wildlife taken in violation of state laws.
