Another explosion at Louisiana's Camp Minden

Posted: Updated:

CAMP MINDEN, LA (KSLA) - One-thousand pounds of black powder exploded Tuesday morning at Camp Minden in Webster Parish, sending a plume of black smoke high into the air and shaking homes as far away as south Bossier City.

The blast happened about 6:30 Tuesday Morning at processing plant owned by GO-EX Powder Inc. The building where the blast occurred makes black powder, but all the work is done by remote control so no one was inside the building. Ten people were evacuated from the immediate area, and one person was injured during the evacuation. That person was taken to a hospital in Minden for treatment.

Louisiana State Police are at the scene and have set up a command post.

Back in March, a fire at an explosive manufacturing plant at Camp Minden was a concern for emergency crews, but the fire burned itself out and there was never an explosion.
