May 15: Road to Nowhere? Editorial

Posted: Updated:

Years ago, a plan was put in place for an inner loop around Shreveport.

Not too long ago, a portion of that loop, known as the 3132 extension was completed in southeast Shreveport to Flournoy Lucas Rd. There it comes to an abrupt end.

Is it a road to nowhere? Apparently various planning commissions, the Council of Governments, The State Department of Transportation and others failed to secure property to finish 3132 all the way to Highway 1.

For years, it has been unclear exactly where the road would go.

As a result, a huge subdivision, 12 Oaks, has been allowed to expand onto land that is in the assumed path of the highway. Another new subdivision is also in the area.

Is there still enough land left for the highway? That's unclear. It's possible the rest of 3132 will never get done.

That's a problem for those residents who live along Flournoy Lucas Rd. because all that traffic from 3132 now ends up on Flournoy Lucas, including heavy truck traffic to and from the port.

Shreveport City councilman, Michael Corbin is trying to get some answers about all this. He is calling for a public hearing to find out what our options are.

It does seem odd the Inner Loop would get to Flournoy Lucas Rd. and no one knows where it goes from there.
