Storms & schools: Debris, outages force closures

Posted: Updated:

Several schools in Sabine Parish are closed today due to widespread storm damage following Tuesday night's severe weather.  Closed are: Many, Ebarb, Zwolle, Pleasant Hill, Converse & Head Start.  Florien and Negreet will remain open.

There will be no classes today for two Webster Parish schools. Superintendent Wayne Williams tells KSLA News 12 that the buses for Central Elementary and Lakeside Jr/S High School won't be able to run today because of all the downed trees and power lines in the roadways along those routes.

All other Webster Parish Schools will be open.

In Claiborne Parish, Athens, Summerfield and all Homer schools are closed due to power outages.

All Bienville Parish Schools will be closed Wednesday due to power outages.

All Bossier Parish Schools are open. That includes Elm Grove Elementary, even though the power is out there this morning.  Superintendent D.C. Machen says the buses were already en route by the time the outage was discovered.  Machen says they are working to get power restored as soon as possible, and AEP SWEPCO has assured them that doing so is a priority.

The official start time for classes at Elm Grove Elementary is 8:15 a.m.
