SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA)- A group that's training Shreveport's next leaders hosted a meet and greet for new members Saturday.

Young Unique Positive People, or YUPP, brings on its latest batch of teenagers.

The program is led by Pastor Charles Johnson and several parents of YUPP members.

It brings together mentoring, leadership training, a focus on academic excellence, and special speakers all under one umbrella.

"YUPP is about diversity, and us as teenagers doing what we have to do for our community. We do community service, volunteer work, and we want to see more young kids like us come out and help. It's basically us doing what we have to do to show our community that yeah there are some people out here who do care," says Briauna Arthur.

The group also hands out college scholarships.
