SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA)- Today, I went on a journey to find the cheapest gas in Shreveport-Bossier, along with KSLA News 12 Photojournalist Scott Pace. I asked one woman while the light was red at Airline and Viking Drive in Bossier City where I could find cheap gas. She LAUGHED before telling me where she goes. Who would have ever thought that the idea of cheap gas would be laughable?
I asked my facebook friends where I could go. Stephanie Alexander told me to go to the Walmart on Bert Kouns in Shreveport. We went, and the price for regular unleaded was $3.59.
That seemed to be the price at most of the places we checked. It's not uncommon for people to do what we did, and ride around town looking for gas that's "on sale."
At the Valero at Old Minden and Benton Road in Bossier City, I spoke with Netia Marshall. I asked if she rides around to find the cheapest gas.
"Yes I do. Last time, I went to Walmart. They're pretty reasonable," she says.
"you wouldn't ride out all of your gas to find the cheapest?" I asked her.
After laughing a little, she says: "no I would not do that. I would be on E."
We talked to one other woman while we were there.
"I won't go out of the way, but if I'm on the way to the doctor's office, I'll check different gas stations. I have to try to save a penny or two," says Natalie Lavoie.
The pain at the pump is very real and unavoidable. Everyone we talked to says they hope the pain goes away soon, or at least eases up.
One lady we talked to out of the window while at a red light at Kings Highway and Line Avenue says: "I've gotten to where I don't even look at the prices anymore. I go to Brookshire's and I just assume they're going to have the cheapest for me."
Natalie Lavoie says she had sticker shock this morning when she rode past one station twice.
"It was $3.53. When I came back it was $3.59 within a couple of hours. I don't understand how they can do that."
I asked the manager at one of the stations when he thinks the prices will drop, he says they'll actually keep going up.
Of course you don't have to go to the extremes that I went to today to find the cheapest price. You can go right to the KSLA News 12 Gas Gauge on www.ksla.com to find the best prices all across the Ark-La-Tex.
