Death penalty possible in Shreveport officer's shooting

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) – Caddo Parish prosecutors say they plan to seek the death penalty for a man accused of killing a Shreveport Police officer.

Prosecutors filed the motion against 24-year-old Christopher Cope Wednesday morning.

Cope faces a first degree murder charge in the death of Police Sgt. Tim Prunty's .

That comes with a minimum punishment of life in prison, but could mean the death penalty.

Cope allegedly opened fire on the officer at a convenience store in south Shreveport in late October.

Cope also faces charges for two more counts of attempted murder from the same night.

Cope will be back in court on June 16th.
