DeSoto Parish, LA(KSLA)- It was a somber morning for students and staff in DeSoto Parish as they remembered the life of Justin Bloxom, the young boy abducted and murdered a year ago today.

A moment of silence was held in Justin Bloxom's honor this morning at North DeSoto Middle School. The principal asked everyone to reflect on his life and the memories he left behind.

Teachers also reminded students to continue their commitment of honoring his life in positive ways; one student recited a poem in Justin's honor.

"My hope is that they realize that this isn't a complete tragedy, I want them to think on the positive side," says student Emily Henderson.

Investigators believe 34-year-old Brian Horn, a registered sex offender, posed as a young girl through text messages and set up an early morning meeting with Bloxom.

Bloxom was later found in a wooded area off of highway 171 that afternoon. Horn is charged with 1st degree murder as he awaits his trial which has been set for April 1st.

The district attorney says he will be seeking the death penalty.
