Something really important is happening this week that we all should be proud of.
The Chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts, Rocco Landesman, is in Shreveport. He is here to draw national attention to the Shreveport Regional Arts Council and the City of Shreveport.
In particular, he recognizes their project to use the arts as a catalyst for economic development and community revitalization.
It all began with an idea of Shreveport Mayor, Cedric Glover, to put the Arts Council into the old Central Fire Station and then use that as a catalyst to restore, renovate and repurpose the western edge of downtown.
The vision is to develop this part of town into a new arts district with galleries and performance areas, a place we can all enjoy.
It will be fun over the next few years to see this plan come together and it's rewarding to have this positive, national attention.
