SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA)- 35 year old Keith Martin is behind bars charged with two counts of first degree murder. Shreveport police detectives believe he shot and killed Rashonda Taylor and her mother Linda Taylor at their home in the 4100 block of Baxter Street in west Shreveport.
"The family is doing much better today. They feel like the first step in justice being served has been initiated, but they are awaiting full justice in the matter," says Pastor Rasby Mason of Temple of Deliverance Ministries.
Mason was their pastor, and he's acting as spokesman for the family. He says they immediately suspected Martin had killed the two women.
"They really believed strongly in their heart that it was him. They had no other suspect in mind."
He was arrested at Arkansas and Hardy, that's in the Queensborough community, just a couple of miles away from the house where the murders took place.
"They (detectives) developed facts and circumstances through witnesses statements and evidence to say that yes this is the person that we believe committed this crime. Therefore this individual was charged with two counts of first degree murder," says Shreveport Police Chief Willie Shaw.
Shaw tells KSLA News 12 the detectives have worked non-stop since Saturday to get an arrest.
"The guys did not rest. Any time that you let the trail grow cold, you lose."
That trail includes threats he allegedly made against Rashonda Taylor.
"No one took him serious though. From what I understand, they just didn't believe he would follow through with them," says Pastor Mason.
Now that the prime suspect is behind bars, the family can begin to heal.
