Denver granted permission to talk to Saints DC Gregg Williams

METAIRIE, La. (AP) - Saints coach Sean Payton says he's given the Broncos permission to interview New Orleans defensive coordinator Gregg Williams about Denver's vacant head coaching position.

Williams has been with the Saints two seasons, starting with their first championship season in 2009. This season, the Saints' defense ranked fourth in the NFL but stumbled in a 41-36 loss to Seattle in last weekend's opening round of the playoffs.

Payton says he won't speculate on the future of more than two dozen potential unrestricted free agents. They include running back Pierre Thomas, safeties Darren Sharper and Roman Harper, wide receiver Lance Moore, and offensive linemen Jonathan Goodwin and Jermon Bushrod.
