LA Police staying vigilant over Christmas and New Year's

Undated, LA(KSLA)- If you plan to travel for the holidays, you're not alone. Many Louisiana residents have already hit the roads to make it in time for Christmas festivities.

AAA is expecting 92 million people to travel across the country between now and New Year's Day with most of them driving to see family and friends.

LA State Troopers will have several check points throughout the state of Louisiana looking for drunk drivers and those not wearing a seatbelt.

They are asking the public to be careful on the roads because they have already an increase in the number of accidents this month.

"We have noticed that crashes have picked up.  Our calls for services have picked up.  In fact, violations- speeding, seat belt- that has somewhat risen as well," says Cordell Williams with LA State Police.
