SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA)- KSLA News 12 has learned that the Jacarlos Moran, the teenager killed in Shreveport Friday morning, and the suspect were close friends. Family members say there's no way the shooting was anything but an accident.
Tualescia Brown is a close friend of the family. She says she's felt all kinds of emotions since Jacarlos died.
"I still don't believe it. I know it...I know he's gone."
Brown lives across the street from the Moran home. She says Jacarlos, known to many as Kabookie, was at her house just about every day.
"Real playful kid. He liked to play a lot. Real friendly. Real outspoken and outgoing. Real active," says Brown.
She tells us she called 911 after Kabookie's mom ran over screaming that he'd been shot- "Someone had brought the baby out, and he was laying on the concrete, and I had 911 on the phone."
The Morans' next door neighbor, Hollie Lewis, watched as it all unfolded.
"We heard some gunshots. Wasn't sure it was gunshots. At first I thought it was just the kids playing, and next thing we know the oldest brother was running inside the house. He was covered in blood."
Lewis says there was lots of commotion.
"We ran outside and he's over there laying on the ground. Words can't describe the pain I was feeling for the family," she says.
Now the family struggles to figure out how and why their baby is gone.
"We know it was an accident, and we're going to hurt, and we're going to grieve over it. But to me, if someone would have intentionally did something to him, then I think it would have hurt more," says Tualescia Brown.
