SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) – An SUV driver suffered life-threatening injuries after his truck hit a utility pole, knocking down several power lines.
The wreck happened Tuesday afternoon near the corner of Gilbert Drive and Washington Street in Shreveport.
Police spokesman Bill Goodin said it looked like the driver was heading north on Gilbert at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the SUV and crashed into the pole.
The driver was taken to the hospital with critical injuries. A female passenger was also taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.
EMT's had to avoid live power lines as they got the victims out of the SUV. SWEPCO was called to the scene to clean up the downed lines and repair the damaged utility pole.
Goodin said crash scene investigators will have to determine exactly how the crash happened.
