Police arrest & charge 19 y.o. in murder of police juror

CLAIBORNE PARISH, LA (KSLA) - Authorities in Claiborne Parish, Louisiana have arrested a 19-year-old man and charged him with murder in the death of a Parish Police Juror.

Donte Fielding faces a charge of 1st degree murder in the death of 72-year-old Brian Butch Hays.

When Fielding was first arrested, he was charged with possession of an illegal weapon, and officials said he was a "person of interest." 

Now, Fielding is being held at the Claiborne Parish with no bond set.

Parish Police juror, 72-year-old Brian Butch Bays was found dead Thursday, Dec. 16 inside his grocery store in Summerfield, Louisiana by a customer, authorities report. Cash was reportedly missing from the register. Bays was serving his fifth term as a police juror in Claiborne Parish.

Days following Bays' murder, officials were able to locate the suspect's Oldsmobile vehicle, which reportedly had a damaged bumper and was allegedly spotted near the grocery store the morning of the murder.

Authorities in Claiborne Parish say more arrests in connection to this murder investigation are possible. Be sure to stay tuned for updates.
