Natchitoches kicks off Christmas Parade

Natchitoches, LA(KSLA)- The City of Natchitoches, also known as Louisiana's Steel Magnolia has kicked off its 84th Annual Christmas Parade. Governor Bobby Jindal and First Lady Supriya Jindal are among the attendees of the parade which started at 2:00 PM.

The Natchitoches Christmas Parade festivities started at 10 am at the Downtown Stage. The festival will feature a fire works show at 6:00 PM.

Thousands of people are already gathered in Louisiana's oldest city that is also known for its historical European style architecture, heritage and lifestyle.

The Festival will feature Louisiana Chef John Folse who is well known for a variety of culinary accolades as well as his collection of cookbooks and also Hollywood recording artist and Disney star Anna Margaret who will serve as the grand marshal of the 2010 Natchitoches Christmas Festival. Anna Margaret is the youngest person to ever reign over the Natchitoches Christmas Festival Parade.

In less than a year, this Alexandria, Louisiana native has become one of the bright lights among emerging teen stars with hit tracks including "Something About the Sunshine" off the Disney Channel's original movie "Starstruck" and the title track "Girl Thing" from the Disney Channel original movie "Den Brother." This 14-year-old singer's video "Something About the Sunshine" has already had over 1.5 million hits on YouTube.

A brief overview of the festival day activities:

10 a.m. – Opening ceremonies on the Downtown Stage

10:15 a.m. – Performance by Taylor Mathews

11 a.m. – Taylor Mathews meet and greet

11 a.m. – Junior Parade (children's parade)

1 p.m. – Anna Margaret performance

2 p.m. – Main Parade

4 p.m. – Anna Margaret meet and greet

6 p.m. – Fireworks

Natchitoches Festival of Lights officially began on Saturday, Nov. 20 with the turning on of hundreds of thousands of Christmas lights. Lights remain on every night through the first week of January.

This year's Festival of Lights will feature Natchitoches' first-ever "Snow Fest." Visitors will be able to experience Frosty's Avalanche Slide by tubing down 110 feet of winter fun on the downtown riverbank.
