Caddo deputies arrest 21 y.o. in fatal shooting of horse

CADDO PARISH, LA (KSLA) - Caddo Parish Sheriff's deputies have made an arrest in connection to the shooting death of a horse.

21-year-old Xavier Strickland of Shreveport is now in custody to face a charge of criminal cruelty to an animal, deputy's say.

According to Caddo Parish deputies, witnesses tell them that the horse, a 16-year-old Appaloosa mare, was running loose down North Lakeshore Drive back on Nov. 13 when Strickland allegedly drove past it in his vehicle and randomly shot it.

The injured horse was taken to a Vivian, Louisiana Animal Hospital where it later died.

Strickland is being held on more than $20,000 bond at the Caddo Correctional Center.
