Cause of death determined for victim of N. Shreveport house fire

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) – The Caddo Parish Coroner's Office have now identified a north Shreveport man who died in a house fire Monday afternoon.

Caddo Coroner, Todd Thoma has identified the victim as 88-year-old Unis V. Coleman and it has been determined that he died of severe burns as a result of the fire.

Shreveport Fire Investigators say the fire broke out Monday afternoon, at a home in the 4300 block of Tacoma. When firefighters arrived, they say there was smoke coming from the front bedroom of the house.

Neighbors told fire officials there was an elderly man who lived inside the home.

After firefighters managed to get the fire under control, they found Coleman who also goes by the name "Mister C," dead in his bedroom.

"It appears that he was probably in bed, and he was definitely at the spot where the fire started, in that area right there," said Chief Dan Cotter with the Shreveport Fire Department. "At this time it doesn't appear like it's anything electrical."

Officials have not determined the cause of the fire yet, but the man was a smoker. He also had a large dog in the home with him at the time of the fire. The dog also died.
