NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Earl Wheeler, a popular bartender at Pat O'Brien's in the French Quarter, was shot to death after a confrontation as he drove home from work.
Wheeler was driving home after work on Thanksgiving when the deadly meeting happened.
Police say a man walked in front of the 21-year-old bartender's car and slammed his palm on the hood. Wheeler got out to confront the man - but the man pulled out a gun and shot Wheeler dead.
New Orleans police responded to reports of a shooting about 3:30 a.m. Friday. They arrived to find Wheeler lying on the sidewalk, wounded by multiple bullets.
According to Saturday's Times-Picayune Wheeler died later at a hospital.
