Texas jury clears Webster Parish deputy of sex charges

MINDEN, La. (AP) - A Texas grand jury clears a Webster Parish deputy of charges that he molested a 6-year-old girl in the 1990s.

Robert Booth's daughter, Holley Booth Wellborn, tells The Press-Herald that Nueces (nyoo-AY-ses) County District Attorney Anna Jimenez told her 63-year-old father on Nov. 18 that the charges were thrown out.

Booth was arrested in June as a fugitive from Nueces County and charged on two counts of aggravated sexual assault to a child and one of indecent sexual conduct with a child.

The Webster Parish Sheriff's Office turned its investigation over to Louisiana State Police

Sheriff Gray Sexton quotes Booth's attorney as saying information provided by state police made it clear there was too little evidence to sustain the allegations.
