Tyson foods adds more jobs in Arkansas plant

HOPE, Ark. (AP) - Tyson Foods Inc. says it will add 250 jobs to its poultry plant at Hope, starting the new hires in mid-December.

According to the Arkansas Business newspaper, a Tyson news release Friday said the Springdale-based company, a leading national meat-processor, will also invest $13 million to install new product-chilling and processing equipment at the Hope plant.

The release said the Hope complex has also made a slight increase in the size specifications for the chickens raised by contract poultry farmers. The company said that will require development of additional chicken houses.

The company estimated that the additional jobs and chicken houses will help increase the annual payroll for Tyson's Hope complex to $27 million and total grower pay to $21 million. The new jobs will raise Tyson's overall employment in the Hope area to more than 1,100 people.
